چکیده

1. The functional capacity of Henle’s loop was examined during hypotonic, isotonic and hypertonic extracellular fluid volume expansion. To eliminate a possible role of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) in the alteration of free water excretion, rats with congenital diabetes insipidus were used. The infusion of hypotonic saline resulted in a progressive rise in free water clearance (CHzo) throughout the range of urine flow (V) attained. Similar results were obtained in rats treated chronically with deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA). The infusion of isotonic saline (sodium chloride, 154 mmol/l) produced an initial rise in CHzo until V represented 10% of the filtered load, after which CHlo appeared to reach a plateau. The limitation of CHz0 was more marked when hypertonic saline was infused. Medullary and papillary non-urea solute ( N U S ) concentration rose progressively with the increasing concentration of the saline solution infused. 2. The greater fractional sodium excretion (FEN3 after acute isotonic and hypertonic volume expansion is probably the result of inhibition of sodium reabsorption in the collecting duct, although inhibition in the ascending limb cannot be entirely excluded. The depression of CHz0 as a function of V seen during acute isotonic or hypertonic volume expansion can be attributed in part to enhanced water back-diffusion from the collecting duct consequent to the increasing medullary and papillary interstitial NUS concentration, even in the absence of ADH. 3. Chronic expansion of extracellular fluid volume by DOCA administration did not modify the response to hypotonic saline infusion.

The effect of acute extracellular volume expansion on sodium chloride reabsorption in the diluting segment in man.

1. The effect of extracellular volume expansion (ECVE) during water diuresis, and of water diuresis alone, on the formation of free water in man was compared. 2. ECVE reduced free water formation at any given rate of distal delivery compared with water diuresis. Thus, ECVE depresses distal sodium chloride reabsorption. 3. This attenuation of free water formation occurred both when urine flow (V...

Exaggerated phosphaturic response to volume expansion in patients with essential hypertension.

1. Tubular handling of sodium in hypertensive patients has been evaluated with urinary phosphate excretion used as a marker for proximal tubular reabsorptive capacity. 2. Nine hypertensive patients and nine normal control subjects were studied during sustained water diuresis and the intravenous infusion of isotonic sodium chloride solution to produce volume expansion. 3. In the hypertensive pat...

Effect of ground black seeds (Nigella sativa L.) on renal tubular cell apoptosis induced by ischemia/reperfusion injury in the rats

Objective(s): The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of ground black seeds on renal tubular cell apoptosis following ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats. Materials and Methods: Forty male Wistar rats were randomly allocated into 5 equal groups including Sham, I/R model and three I/R+ black seeds (5, 10 and 20%)-treated groups. I/R groups’ kidneys were subjected to 60 min of isc...

Effects of Oleuropein on renal antioxidant status and serum inflammatory factors in Streptozotocin-induced diabetic male rat

Introduction: Intrarenal oxidative stress plays a critical role in the initiation and progression of diabetic kidney disease. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of oleuropein on the activity of antioxidant enzymes of kidney tissue and anti-inflammatory factors in diabetic induced Streptozotocin male rats. Materials and Methods: In this study, 28 ad...

Interaction of Memantine with Homocysteine on the Apoptosis in the Rat Hippocampus cells

It has been hypothesized that elevated plasma Homocysteine (Hcy) plays a role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and age-related cognitive decline. The mechanism of Hcy neurotoxicity in the brain is controversial as well Hcy is a ligand of NMDA receptor. Memantine, an uncompetitive antagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors approved for the treatment of moderate to severe ...
